CSDR and how it will impact your business
What are the business impacts of the new European CSD Regulation? VP hosts a seminar that will offer international insights and a national perspective.
CSDR makes way for a level playing field for the CSDs operating in the EU, and the business impact will start to show in 2017. VP is on track and will acquire its European CSD license in 2017 – hence market participants (banks, brokers and operators involved with securities settlement) must be compliant with CSDR. Revision of processes and systems are among the most obvious effects, also a new penalty mechanism will have significant impact on market participants when a settlement discipline regime is implemented end of year 2019. On a higher level, competing CSDs means new possibilities and new choices.
“At first glance harmonising the financial markets and the underlying infrastructure in the EU is a question of compliance to a new international paradigm, but it also has greater business impacts as it will open up new possibilities for market participants”, says head of Clearing & Settlement Products Thomas Bo Christensen from VP SECURITIES explaining why VP is hosting a seminar on CSDR.
VP has invited guest speakers from the Danish FSA and the European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA) - to give both the compliance perspective and the international perspective on the impacts of CSDR. ECSDA is an association of more than 40 CSDs in 37 European countries. ECSDA promotes a constructive dialogue between the CSD community, European public authorities and all other stakeholders looking to achieve an optimal regulatory framework for clearing and settlement.
“We are pleased to have the Secretary General Anna Kulik from ECSDA here in Copenhagen to discuss the business impact of CSDR with the market participants here in the Nordics. Also Head of Capital Markets Division Anders Balling from the Danish FSA will join the discussion, and both of them take part in a panel debate”, says Thomas Bo Christensen.
During the seminar, VP will also give a status in terms of the CSDR implementation from a VP customer perspective. The seminar is held 23 May 2017 at VP in Copenhagen.
